Perhaps you have noticed that your child experiences phobias, is highly anxious or struggles to go to sleep. Maybe you are worried that your child has difficulty with friendships, is disruptive in school or is possibly depressed. Maybe your child has autism or attention deficit disorder or you think they might have something more going on and want to find out. Maybe they need ongoing therapy from a trained professional to teach them social skills or coping strategies to control their anger.
Counselling can help children to express their feelings and understand them. I often involve parents in therapy especially in the early days while everyone is getting to know each other. When I work with children, I often use creative play therapy along side dedicated programs. Don't be suprised if you child comes home with model volcano's (scaling anger) or craft glasses (positive focus) or a game to play. Working with crafts allows children a way to communicate their feelings in a non threatening way and makes psychological therapy easy and fun.
Adolescence is a time where young people are faced with many challenges on their journey to adulthood including physical, emotional, and social changes.
With all these transformative shifts, life can become overwhelming and stressful, and adolescents can feel uncertain about how to navigate the challenges they face.
Sometimes it is hard to talk through these issues with your teen especially if you are unsure on how to approach it or concerned of the impact.
Sometimes its hard to know what to say but it often makes it worse if we choose not to talk at all.
I like to provide a family systems approach and include parents or sibblings. That all depends on the teen, their age and what will give the best outcome. I like to let your teen guide therapy as much as possible.
I like to provide a non-judgmental environment for teens to feel safe discussing any part of their life. A place that parents can trust. Teens can struggle with the pressures of everyday life, negative thoughts, low self-esteem or other difficulties. Counselling can help your teenager begin to make sense of their world and find solutions to their problems.
As we get older our lives can become more and more complicated. Sometimes this can be overwhelming and we need some guidance.
My clients see me for general counselling or for ongoing support services for ASD/ADHD/ID. Sometimes clients just know that something isn't right and they want to find out whats going on. As a neurodevelopmental psychologist I have the training and qualifications to help you.
Counselling can offer a range of positive benefits that can improve and enhance your life. You can express yourself freely in a confidential setting with an unbiased, trained psychologist who is bound by a code of professional ethics. This allows you to understand your thoughts and feelings and how they affect your behaviour, allowing you to learn productive ways to deal with them in a safe place.
I am very direct with my clients and offer a solution-based therapy. I offer practical tools and strategies which can learnt and incorporated into life.
